Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed interest to reggaeton, but also drew interest to Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 as opposed to two in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) well-known artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in the year 2020. However, a brand newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted method.
