April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to win medals at more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with Ross at Tokyo for her third gold medal in the next few days. Ross hopes to win more than her first Olympic medal. As she turns 39, it could be her final chance to take home the Olympic gold. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we try our best, and even If we play our best, I think we could win the gold medal." "I'm trying to also try a little luck." Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here with her father, mother and younger sister. She went on to compete in a myriad of sports in Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she was a participant in basketball, indoor volleyball and running track. When she played in the final sport she stood out. As a high school volleyball career in her university profile, she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player of 1999. She also received an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. While Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already a big-time participant on the beaches prior to their team. She's won big competitions with different players. A couple of those is an icon of the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to the year 2013. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship with Kessy in 2009, was also significant on the an international level. They eventually won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor clinched gold beating them to it. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her the college years following her graduation from high school. Ross's time in the Trojans was remarkable. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman Of The Year, and was also an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss in her sophomore, however, she was successful in achieving the All-American distinction. In her last two seasons with the Trojans team, she led them to a national title each year. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter achieve the heights of the beach volleyball ladder. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001 when Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. This meant that Ross is still close to her parent who died. Margie is an inspiration on and off of the beach.
